Fantastic Invisalign Treatment in Lutz, FL

101799276Everyone remembers how bad braces used to be in middle school and high school. The metal brackets would stick out like a sore thumb and ultimately became the source of a lot of teasing. In adulthood, no one wants to go back to wearing braces. Fortunately, there is a solution to this in the form of Invisalign. These clear, plastic aligners are removable and unnoticeable when in the mouth. Nelson Dentistry and Dental Sleep Medicine offers these aligners for the individual who wants to straighten their teeth.

How Do I Know if I Need Invisalign?

Invisalign is a great alternative for those adults who want to straighten their teeth. Whether you have crowding or misaligned teeth, clear braces may give you the dazzling smile that you have always dreamed about! Because they are made from a clear plastic, Invisalign is a great choice for adults that would like to have a straight smile without the look of the old style metal braces.

How Does It Work?

Invisalign goes through several phases. In the first phase, our renowned dentist, Dr. Nelson, takes 3D images of your mouth. The images are reviewed and sent to a certified Invisalign laboratory, where a series of custom aligners are made for you. The aligners are worn in a specific order, and each set will be worn for roughly two weeks at a time. Dr. Nelson will periodically check on the progress of your Invisalign sets to make sure your teeth are moving properly. If certain sets need to be worn longer or if you need to make any changes, Dr. Nelson will let you know and explain any steps required.

Since the aligners are removable, you can take them out to eat, brush your teeth, chew gum, or do anything you need to do. However, you should keep them in place if you are not doing any of these activities.

Common Health Risks of Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea disturbing partnersA recent study conducted on a closed course revealed that people who drive while sleep deprived commit as many as 3 times more driving mistakes than drunk drivers. Of those driving errors, more of them were potentially fatal (running stop signs/lights, swerving off the road/into other lanes, etc.). Sleep deprivation has been linked to memory loss, lack of concentration, and other impaired cognitive functions, as well as being linked to numerous systemic and chronic illnesses. If that isn’t scary enough, sleep deprivation is only 1 symptom of sleep apnea. Patients who suffer from sleep apnea are at greater risk for numerous diseases, and sleep deprivation is merely the tip of the iceberg. To find out more about sleep apnea, associated health risks, and treatment options, call Dr. Jay A. Nelson and his team at Nelson Dentistry and Dental Sleep Medicine of Lutz, FL to schedule a sleep apnea consultation today.

How Does Invisalign Work?

The Invisalign process starts with a personalized orthodontic consultation with Dr. Nelson. Dr. Nelson will evaluate your orthodontic problems to determine whether or not Invisalign is the best treatment choice. If it is, Dr. Nelson will take detailed impressions and pictures of your teeth. This information will be sent to the Invisalign labs, where your new Invisalign clear braces will be custom fabricated. After fabrication, you will receive your clear braces in stages, with each new set incrementally repositioning your teeth until your treatment is complete. You will only have to visit Dr. Nelson about every six weeks so that he can monitor your progress.

Is Invisalign Right For You?

Invisalign is the most convenient and discrete orthodontic solution available. It is perfect for the busy teen or adult. You can easily remove the braces to eat, brush, or floss. You can also remove them for important meetings or special occasions, as long as you wear them for at least 20 hours per day. Since the Invisalign clear braces are made from a nearly invisible clear plastic, you can complete your orthodontic treatment with relative discretion. And unlike traditional braces, you don’t have to avoid your favorite foods or tolerate painful adjustments.

Get a “Picture Perfect” Smile with New Porcelain Veneers in Lutz, FL

Are cosmetic imperfections keeping you from smiling? If you have damaged, decayed, discolored, or twisted teeth, you should consider a quick smile fix with new porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are used to create Hollywood style picture perfect smiles. For your smile makeover, make a porcelain veneers consultation appointment with Dr. Nelson today.  Dr. Nelson is a trusted cosmetic dentist. Nelson Dentistry transforms smiles daily throughout Lutz, New Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Land O’Lakes, and the surrounding Florida communities.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are made from wafer-thin shells of porcelain, which can be bonded to the front side of teeth. Most porcelain veneers are approximately 0.5 to 0.6 mm thick; that’s about half the thickness of a dime or twice the thickness of an eggshell.

How Long Is the Porcelain Veneers Process?

  • Step 1: First, the enamel on the affected tooth is trimmed by about the same thickness as the veneer to be placed. If you choose DuraTHIN veneers, which are significantly thinner than traditional veneers, this first step can be skipped.
  • Step 2: Next, Dr. Nelson will use a tooth shade guide to determine which color porcelain most closely resembles the teeth which lie on either side of the supported tooth.
  • Step 3: Once the prep has been completed, Dr. Nelson will take an impression of your tooth. This information will be sent to a dental lab to fabricate your veneer. It may take up to two weeks for veneer fabrication. As you wait for the veneer to be made, you will receive a temporary veneer.
  • Step 4: After Dr. Nelson receives the new veneer, he will set it in place, inspect it, remove it, and trim it, repeatedly, until it fits perfectly over your tooth.
  • Step 5: Next, your veneer is bonded into place using a bonding agent. Once it’s been positioned correctly, Dr. Nelson will set the cement with a special curing light. This light activates a catalyst in the bonding agent and cement, causing them to set in about 60 seconds. As a last step, your bite will be evaluated to confirm that it wasn’t altered by the new veneer.

Why Get Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers can be used address several cosmetic issues at once, including: chipped, worn down, discolored, and crooked teeth. Porcelain veneers also closely mimic the way your natural teeth reflect light, allowing them to look incredibly lifelike. Additionally, porcelain veneers resist staining and discoloration extremely well, when compared to cosmetic bonding dental material.

Get a Brighter Holiday Smile with Professional Teeth Whitening

With all of the preparation that goes into the holiday season, sometimes it’s easy for us to forget about one of our most important gifts, a bright healthy smile. Our teeth can become discolored over time due to staining from carbonated beverages, tea, coffee, smoking, or certain illnesses and medications. You may have tried teeth whitening methods in the past that didn’t work as expected. This is because some stains actually require professional teeth whitening treatment to be removed. Make an appointment with Dr. Nelson today for your teeth whitening consultation. Give Dr. Nelson just one hour to find the right teeth whitening option for you.  Dr. Nelson and his team proudly serve patients in Lutz, FL, New Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Land O’Lakes, and surrounding Florida cities.

Teeth Whitening Options

  • Teeth Whitening Toothpaste- Teeth whitening toothpastes are not an effective teeth whitening option. Whitening toothpastes contain no bleaching agents. They can polish away the shallowest of surface stains, but cannot correct discoloration. It can take several weeks of daily use to see any difference in your teeth at all. Whitening toothpastes are best used to maintain the condition of your teeth after you have used a more effective teeth whitening system.
  • At- Home Teeth Whitening Products- These may be whitening strips, whitening gel, or mouth trays with gel. Systems with over-the-counter tooth whitening trays may not fit your mouth properly. These improperly fitting trays can cause the tooth whitening gel to leak, resulting in gum irritation like burning or redness.  In addition to these complications, it may take several treatments to get the desired results.
  • Professional Teeth WhiteningDr. Nelson can provide properly fitted customized mouth trays. These dentist-supervised systems can also be used effectively on patients with sensitive teeth and gums.

Calm Your Fears with Relaxation Dentistry

For many people, visiting the dentist can be a daunting experience. Though the fear may be mild, only causing slight discomfort, for others, the fear can be paralyzing, causing them to ignore the dental work they need done. Dr. Jay A. Nelson understands that sitting in a dentist’s chair can be uncomfortable to many people, and he wants to be able to deliver quality dental care while also catering to the needs and fears of his patients. By offering relaxation dentistry at his Lutz, Florida dental office, he is able to do just that.

One way we are able to help our patients feel more relaxed in our office is by offering oral sedation. A great alternative to IV sedation, this form is able to keep you relaxed and calm during your dental appointment. All you have to do is take a prescribed pill about an hour before your appointment, and you will be guided into a treatment room when you arrive at our office. We will be able to pay close attention to your vital signs, and, if needed, offer nitrous oxide to ensure a relaxing environment. This form of sedation is perfect for those who suffer from TMJ, have a sensitive gag reflex, and people who cannot keep their mouths open for extended periods of time. With this form of sedation, it is important that you have a trusted love one bring you home after your appointment, as the effects will still linger after your appointment.

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is administered via a nasal mask versus orally. We will be able to control the amount of nitrous we offer, all depending on your anxiety level. You will begin to relax quickly, and Dr. Nelson will be able to perform your dental work. Because you will be conscious, you will be able to respond to the doctor if necessary. The effects subside when we remove the mask, and you will be able to bring yourself home after your dental work is performed! If you would like Dr. Nelson’s help with helping to calm your dental fears, contact our office today!

Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants

Feeling confident in your smile is very important in feeling confident in the way you look overall. Having a beautiful, flawless smile is something that many people strive for, as it is a sign of vitality and health. If you are not secure in your smile, it can affect the way you feel about yourself as well as affect the way you interact with the people around you. Having teeth missing from your smile is never an easy thing to deal with, and Dr. Jay A. Nelson wants to give his patients the smile of their dreams. By offering dental implants to his patients, Dr. Nelson is able to restore smiles and confidence!

One of the reasons why replacing missing teeth is so important is because it not only affects your oral health, but the health of your body. When left untreated, having teeth missing from your smile can result in bone loss, a misaligned bite, TMJ, and your teeth shifting in order to make up for the extra space. If you have teeth missing from your smile, it is important to address the situation immediately. It is also important to have a consultation with Dr. Nelson to make sure you are a candidate for dental implants.

Dr. Nelson will refer you to a dental implant specialist who will embed titanium screws into your jaw bone. These screws will take the place of a tooth root, and will fuse with your bone over time, establishing a solid foundation for your new smile. After the right amount of healing time has passed, Dr. Nelson will place a tooth-resembling crown on top of your implant, completing your new look! Dental implants also support multiple-tooth prosthetics, partials, dentures, and bridges. If you would like to restore your smile using dental implants, contact our office today!
